Stakeholder Needs & Gap Analysis

Welcome to the final Tool of the Month for 2020! Many of us are anticipating 2021 and looking forward to the reset and refresh marker we all know as January 1, 2021.

Last month we shared a summary outlining the five phases we identified around the business planning process. We know many organizations are continuing to walk through the Business Planning Process for 2021 and are highlighting the second of the five phases, Conducting a Stakeholder Needs and Gap Analysis, to wrap up this year.

This second phase can be pivotal in identifying initiatives for a business plan as it creates an opportunity to gather feedback from key stakeholders both internally and externally on many levels from the C Suite to local Community Leaders to the organization's Board Members. The feedback can be utilized to identify common themes, new opportunities, challenges and more (i.e. a S.W.O.T Analysis!).

As Key Stakeholders are identified and plans are formulated, we want to encourage you to provide Stakeholders with various methodologies and opportunities to communicate their feedback.

Options to consider:

  • Offer Multiple Focus Group Sessions for Stakeholders to share verbal feedback in an interactive setting where people can have an open dialogue, share ideas and engage with one another.

  • Develop an anonymous, electronic survey where Stakeholders can record their feedback and process the questions on their own time.

  • Schedule 1-1 Meetings with Core Stakeholders to ensure the individuals who are closest to the organization and the planning process are provided with an additional opportunity to be heard and connect to the process.

We recognize meeting face to face may not be an option during this season and would simply shift those face to face engagements to Zoom, Teams or your preferred platform.

This month's Tool is a sample questionnaire to gather feedback during Focus Group Sessions, in an electronic Survey and during 1-1 Stakeholder Meetings.

We certainly wish you and your Teams continued growth and success as we look ahead to a New Year!
